Rosy Apple’s Little Achievers day nurseries are already preparing to offer parents the most flexible option under new Early Years Entitlement provision known as s-t-r-e-t-c-h. The new system, which comes into force in September, will see Little Achievers parents offered 11 hours of free early learning for 51 weeks of the year for all children from the term after their third birthday. The current system allows nurseries to offer 12.5 hours of free early learning for 38 weeks during term time and, under the new option, all nurseries will increase this to 15 hours in the autumn. However, for the first time, the entitlement can be offered by nurseries all year round under a scheme known as stretching. Explaining why she will offer the most flexible option under the new arrangements, Rosy Apple MD, Sharon Alexander, says: “As an award winning day nursery provider, we already offer totally flexible care to meet the needs of our parents and we are in a strong position to respond quickly to government wishes that providers offer the 15 hours Early Years Entitlement flexibly. We are very aware that not all parents only work during term time and the current term time entitlement option causes problems during school holidays. Consequently we are going to be one of the first nurseries to offer the all year round entitlement to our parents.” Winners of this year’s North West Apprenticeship Medium Employer of the Year Award, Rosy Apple was highly commended Medium Employer of the Year in the National Apprenticeship Awards, 2009. In 2008, Hajra Dawood, an apprentice at Little Achievers @ Headstart Nursery was Lancashire’s Apprentice of the Year and Rosy Apple also won the Performance Through People Award in the 2008 BIBAs. Established in November 2003 with a 39 place day nursery, Rosy Apple has grown steadily since then and now offers almost 300 places in Preston and Blackburn.
