Budding poets to be published Preston’s Little Achiever’s are delighted to have their poems selected for the forthcoming anthology, ‘My First Poem 2008 – Poems from Lancashire’ Staff and children at Preston’s Little Achievers at Headstart Nursery are delighted by the news that 12 of their children are to have their poems included in the forthcoming publication, ‘My First Poem 2008 – Poems from Lancashire’ due out on 31st January 2009. Following a competition earlier in the year the 11 successful young poets have just heard that their poems have been selected for publication. The competition, organised by the publishers of ‘My First Poem’, introduces young children to poetry and rhyme and is lots of fun for those taking part. The children use a specifically designed ‘My First Poem’ template and are helped to write their first poem and dedicate it to someone special. All children whose work is published receive a Certificate of Merit whilst everyone taking part receives a My First Bookmark. Little Achievers at Headstart Nursery is one of four day nurseries managed by Rosy Apple Ltd. Managing Director, Sharon Alexander is delighted by the children’s success. She says, “Our children really enjoyed taking part in the competition and are delighted so many of their poems are going to be published. It’s a great way for them to get involved in poetry and rhyme and a fun way to develop literacy skills.” My First Poem is part of a well established Young Writers imprint and draws on many years experience of working with schools to develop creativity and literacy skills. Young Writers is the young people’s publishing imprint of Forward Press - The People’s Publisher. Established in 1991, Young Writers has promoted poetry and creative writing within schools for the past 15 years by running annual nationwide competitions. Each competition results in the publication of a collection of regional anthologies showcasing the work of today’s children. The British Library has over a decade of Young Writers collections in its national archive! More information on My First Poem available at www.myfirstpoem.com
