Nursery Children Benefit from £20 000 Investment Date:11/03/2009 14:20:45
Nursery tots set to benefit from £20,000 investment in outdoor play area Excited tots attending Headstart Pre-School Centre, Lancashire County Council Workplace Nursery and Crèche on Bow Lane, Preston can’t wait for spring when they will have a newly refurbished outdoor play area. Thanks to a £20,000 grant from the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), work has already started on this ambitious scheme to provide exciting outdoor play facilities at the nursery. Managing Director Sharon Alexander is delighted to be able to make these improvements. She says, “We have wanted to develop a first class outdoor activity area for some time and jumped at the chance to apply for this DCSF funded grant. We are thrilled that we can now provide a fresh and very pleasant garden and play area that is completely safe for our children, giving them the chance to move freely between indoor and outdoor activities. Outdoor activities are an essential part of a child’s daily life, not an optional extra and learning through outdoor play is just as important as indoor activities. The new area has been well planned and specifically designed to meet our children’s interests and their need to be active, and also noisy and messy at times, in a totally safe environment.” The new garden and outdoor play area will boast an exciting choice of interesting activities including an artists “studio”. Led by a local artist the new “studio” will be fully equipped with portable easels, stools, a large range of art materials and a potter’s wheel. Other exciting features include an outdoor stage and imaginary play area, an area for the children to grow their own fruit and vegetables and a multi sensory garden. The nursery applied for the funding via Sure Start which has been responsible for administering and allocating the DCSF grants. Located next door to County Hall, the nursery, which is managed by Rosy Apple Childcare Ltd, offers exclusive care for up to 42 children aged 0-8 years for the employees of Lancashire County Council, Lancashire police, fire and ambulance services, Lancashire Education Authority and Health services.
